A place for the small things
Tuktak is a Bangla-first, text-only social platform for Bangladeshi students and people connected to student life. The idea is simple: a thought does not need a large stage to start a worthwhile conversation.
The short-post format puts words first. Institution and education details are optional, so participation does not depend on turning a personal profile into an academic résumé.
Building around the language
Bangla is part of the product’s foundation, rather than a translation added at the end. The project uses self-hosted Hind Siliguri typography and a focused interface to support a comfortable reading and writing experience.
Underneath, Next.js, React and TypeScript structure the application. Supabase provides the authentication and data foundation, with database policies and validation part of the engineering approach.
What matters in this work
- A clear, compact space for text-led conversations.
- A Bangla-first experience with readable typography.
- Optional identity details and deliberate privacy boundaries.
- A maintainable foundation for a product that can keep evolving.
